Cyprus flag enamel pin
Flag pin with the white flag of Cyprus. The flag depicts a copper-colored map of Cyprus with two olive twigs underneath. The copper color is said to symbolize the large abundance of copper found on the island. The white color and the olive twigs both symbolize peace, in an attempt to show harmony between the Greek and Turkish Cypriot communities, an ideal that has not yet been achieved.

After Cyprus gained its independence from British occupation in 1960, a new flag was adopted. The flag was intended to have a ‘neutral design and color scheme’ and therefore contains neither red nor blue colors as known from the Greek flag and the Turkish flag.
The flag was designed by a Turkish Cypriot art teacher named İsmet Güney.
