The Dannebrog Myth and History
The flag of Denmark, known as Dannebrog (meaning: the Danes' banner or red-colored banner), is red with a white Nordic cross that extends to the edges. The elongated Nordic cross is used by the Nordic countries in various color combinations. The flag is believed to originate from the Danish Crusades period in the 12th and 13th centuries, but it is first documented in the 14th century, where it appears in Valdemar IV's coat of arms. According to a myth, the flag fell from the sky during a battle in Lyndanisse in 1219 between Valdemar the Victorious' Danish forces and the Estonians. Dannebrog also stands as the world's oldest national flag in continuous use throughout history.
A flag pin can be an excellent gift to bring on an exchange or in connection with business visits abroad.
