Latvian Flag Enamel Pin
The national flag of Latvia, in its red and white colors, was reinstated on February 27, 1990. This same flag had been used by independent Latvia from 1918 until 1940, when the country became part of the USSR. The flag's maroon color is a unique blend of brown and red-violet, also known as "Latvian red".

Latvian Flag Enamel Pin
The story of the flag tells that a wounded chief from Latvia was wrapped in a white sheet. Where he lay, the sheet remained white, and the two edges were stained with his blood. This blood-stained sheet was used as a flag in the next battle, and the Latvian warriors won the fight. Since then, the Latvian tribes have used the red and white colors.
