The Red flag: The Labor Movement and Trade Unions
Red flags can have many meanings and are used as a symbol for trade unions, the labor movement and socialism amongst others.
The red flag was first used as a symbol of rebellion in France in 1792 during the French Revolution.
Here, red flags were raised to signal a ban on gatherings, and soldiers used red flags when striking down on ordinary citizens.
As a result the protesters then adopted the red flag as a form of rebellion and revenge, and it has since become widespread as a symbol of the labor movement.
