The Spanish Flag

The Spanish flag, Bandera de España, is based on a design from 1785. However, it was not until 1843, under Isabella II, that the flag was adopted as the national flag. The colors were chosen with the aim of making it easily distinguishable from the flags of other nations - especially at sea. The current version was officially adopted as the national flag in the Spanish constitution on October 5, 1981.
